The CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) has published an excellent guide and practical toolkit today: Employing young people: A step-by-step guide for SMEs.

This is not just a traditional report — it provides a lot of checklists and practical tools to help you analyse your business needs and approaches to recruiting young people.

The title of the publication clearly aims it at SMEs and young people, but a lot of the advice and toolkits would also be useful for employing people of any age and for charities recruiting volunteers.

The CIPD are an excellent source of free advice and resources on a whole range of HR and employment and development related issues. If you’re an SME or charity you’ll find their weekly e-newsletter useful for keeping you up to date with legal and other developments.
